In real life, I’ve never been one to hang at the water cooler. If I’m working, I’m working. But as a writer who works from home, I find that I need to take breaks—I can only handle so much solitary before I need some social interaction. So, I’ve been digging around on the awesome number of writing Web sites, and I’ve decided to join Absolute Write’s Water Cooler.
So far, I’ve been enjoying the section dedicated to blogging. I found out that I’m doing some things right, which as a new blogger can be encouraging. I’ve also discovered other writing blogs, and I’m taking some time to visit them. I even took advantage of the blog review forum, so I should find out if I’m making any major mistakes.
And of course, the Web site offers a variety of topics. Sometimes it’s good to browse through a topic and get a quick refresher course on things I should keep in mind as I write. Other forums answer frequently asked questions or provide encouragement to writers who just really need a break from stringing together sentences.
All in all, the first impression is that I’m going to like the Water Cooler. If you’re already hanging there, feel free to say hi. And if not, and you need a break, consider heading over. (Just be sure you bring your own glass of water.)
Contest Reminder
Well, it’s nearly the middle of the month, which means it’s contest reminder time. If you haven’t already signed up to Win a 10,000 Word Edit, now’s your chance. And remember, you can get a second entry if you pass the news along.

Sounds cool, Tara! Can't wait to see who wins the edit!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny. I think I would rather hang out at the water cooler all day! But that's because I'm not a writer full time (I have a day job that gets in the way).
ReplyDeleteWater coolers have never been my weakness, but I enjoyed hearing about this one.
ReplyDeleteHey! Just wanted to come over and thank you for your comment on my blog. It's always nice to hear from new people! Also, I am always really interested in freelance writers because I think I might like to do that someday. It seems like a really cool career. Also, if you want someone to review your fairy novel when you finish it my eyes are always open. (I'm a vampire. haha)

Katie--I'll let you know! I'm so excited it's hard not to draw a name early.
ReplyDeleteHeather--I'm getting to where I can hang out at the water cooler all day. :]
Dave--Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Tashi--I'll keep your offer in mind. I think I almost have it ready for submission, which is an awesome feeling.
